Task 8 and 9

Whats your age?

Q1 conclusion: I have asked people who are in the age ranges of my target audience. My most common age range was 15-17 so I will favour my magazine to this age range.

Q2 I asked 20 people what their occupation was, I found out that most of the people where students or worked in retail. Taking this into consideration means that I will price my magazine low, because the consumers may have lower income.

Q3. I asked 20 people a questionnaire on their gender. I came to the conclusion that more males are interested in music magazines however the gap between male and female was very small therefore my target audience will be both.

Q4. By asking people “do you buy music magazines?” I was able to find out that 13 people out of 20 buy music magazine. This shows that music magazines are very popular with at least more that 50% of my target audience.

Q5.Out of the 13 people who buy music magazine, I found out that the genres are evenly spread which shows that people are willing to read different genres.

Q6. I asked the 7 people who said no, 4 people said it was to expensive therefore if I lower the price I could widen my target audience. I can get more consumers by improving and listening to what they want.

Q7 I asked people what genre they normally buy and the numbers were evenly spread, so again I learned that people are willing to read anything and any genre of music.

Q8 By asking what comes to mind when I say three genres “indie” “alternative” and “pop”. I was able to consider this in my planning. I came to the conclusion that people seem to have a distinct idea on what indie and alternative should look like and not many people follow the pop genre.

Q9 I asked 20 people what colours come to mind when I said the same three words, in doing this I was able to pick my colour scheme so it would please my target audience, but by asking people for only three words I limited my research.

Q10 By asking how much people are willing to pay. I found out that most people are willing to pay between £2.50-£3.00; this is showing that my price range should be in the area, so my target audience will buy it.

Q11 I asked the thirteen who buy magazines, if they preferred a free item, and more than 50% said yes. This is telling me that I should include a free item with my magazine, to widen my target audience.

Q12. By asking if they visited the magazines website, I was able to find out how much my magazine should be internet based, it was evenly spread it was only one more person who did not use it. This shows me that I should include the internet.

Q.13 I asked if they used the social networking sites such as face book, by asking this question I was able to find out how much attention I should spend on these sites, and how advertise this to my target audience over 50% said yes so this would be a great way to advertise to my target audience.

Q14. I asked if they subscribed to magazines, most of the people I asked to subscribe, this shows me I would have to take this into account when I make my magazine, making sure I include subscriptions.

Q15. My target audience said that reading about bands and music is more interesting to them, rather than the one person who said they liked the magazine and the pictures. This shows me what I content I should put in my magazine to keep my target audience happy.

Q16 .The thirteen people who buy magazine said that when the covers are empty puts them off buy a magazine, this tells me that I would have to make sure my front cover is full and not looking empty so I can get more people to buy it.

Q17. I asked 20 people what they would like to see on the magazine and 50% said they would like different genres on the magazine. This shows me that I would have to make sure more than one genre in my magazine to keep my target audience interested.

Q18 By asking them the reason to why they answered Q17, 50% said it was because they often listen to more than one genre, so they could buy one magazine and get all there favourite music. This will help me with the content I put in my magazine.

Q19 by asking how often they would be willing to buy it I got an idea of how often I would publish the magazine. 50% said monthly but there wasn’t much difference between the people who would buy it weekly or monthly, from this I can say that I would publish my magazine weekly or monthly.
